Journal Privacy: Why Providers Can't See Client Entries
Understand why the mobile app's journal feature is private to the client, and why that matters.
What is Journal Privacy?
The Coming Home mobile app includes a private journal feature for clients. Journal entries are private to the client and are not visible to their care provider, team members, or anyone else in the organization.

Who Can Access Journal Entries
- Clients
- Are the only ones who can view, write, or manage their own journal entries
- Care Providers and Team Members
- Cannot view a client's journal entries under any circumstance
- Cannot request journal access through the CCMS
Why Journal Privacy Matters
Journaling is most useful when a client feels safe writing honestly. If clients believed their entries could be seen by their care team, it could discourage them from using the feature at all, or from being fully honest in it.
Why it matters: Protecting journal privacy builds trust in the platform and supports genuine, unguarded self-reflection, which is a meaningful part of the healing process.
Tips/Best Practices
- Never describe the journal as provider-visible: This applies to conversations with clients, funders, or partner organizations.
- Reassure clients proactively: Mentioning privacy upfront, before a client starts journaling, can encourage them to use the feature.
- Redirect if a client wants to share something from their journal: Clients can always choose to bring up journal content in a conversation or message, but that sharing is always their choice.
