[Reporting & Exports](https://knowledge.cominghome.ai/en/knowledge-base/reporting-exports?hsLang=en) # What is the Difference Between Current and Historical Reporting? ## Learn how current and historical reporting work in Coming Home and what to consider when reviewing your report results. ### **Understanding Current and Historical Reporting** When reviewing a report, it is important to understand whether the information reflects what is currently recorded in Coming Home or activity associated with a previous period. These are two different ways of looking at information. ### **What is Current-State Reporting?** Current-state reporting shows information based on the latest available records in Coming Home. Think of it as taking a picture of your organization's information as it appears today. For example, you might generate a report showing how many clients are currently marked Active. If a client's status changes later, running the report again may produce different results because the report uses the latest available information. ### **What is Historical Reporting?** Historical reporting lets you review activity associated with a past period. It still uses the records currently available in Coming Home: if someone later adds or corrects an Assistance dated within that period, running the report again may change the results. For example, you might want to know how many Assistances were provided between July 1 and September 30. Rather than reviewing only current client information, an Assistance report using a date range can focus on recorded services from that period. ### **Which datasets support historical reporting?** Not all datasets support historical reporting in the same way. | **Reporting information** | **Current capability** | | --- | --- | | Clients | Current-state client information | | Programs | Current-state program information | | Assistances | Historical reporting using date ranges | | Assessments | Latest completed Assessment values | | Goals, Tasks, Challenges | Current-state assignment information | Assessment and assignment reporting options are included within the Clients dataset in the detailed Custom Summary Reports specification. #### **Example: Current-state reporting with Assessments** Imagine a client completes an Assessment in January. Their employment status is recorded as Unemployed. In April, the same client completes another Assessment, and their employment status is recorded as Employed. If you generate a Custom Report using Employment Status (Latest Assessment), Coming Home uses the client's latest completed Assessment value. The report would reflect the most recently recorded employment status. This means results may change if information has been added or updated since the previous report was generated. For example, if additional Assistance records are entered for a previous reporting period, rerunning a report for that period may produce different results. **Important:** The current version of the Custom Report does not automatically preserve a complete history of previous report outputs or configuration versions. If you need to keep the results as they appeared for a particular period, download the CSV and retain it according to your organization's recordkeeping procedures. Running the saved report again may update those results. ### **What does this mean for your reporting?** Understanding the difference between current and historical reporting helps you interpret your results accurately. Use current-state reporting to review information as it is currently recorded in Coming Home. Use the Assistances dataset with date filters when you need to review recorded services from a previous reporting period.
